Aries New Moon 3/24: Moving Forward Through Uncertainty

New Moon

The Aries New moon is exact on March 24, amidst a conjunction to Chiron; this exposes the wounds of our society. There is emphasis on the need to effectively communicate and share our ideas; we must keep moving forward despite the prevailing uncertainty of our environment. Chiron pushes us to heal, to face our darkness and teaches us how to overcome inadequacies. Focus on healing yourself and in turn, you will heal others.

The New Moon’s square to the north node in the 6th house highlights issues of health, anxiety, and worry; and reiterates the message of needing to heal. With the moon in Aries, we are encouraged to channel our braver side, to stand strong and to remain in a state of vigilance. Be gentle with yourself and those around you. Aim for patience, despite the urge for quick action that Aries energy tends to fuel.

The Aries New Moon also reminds us of the need for good leadership. Strength comes in all shapes and sizes, but with Chiron close by, we are in need of leaders who can teach us, heal us and inform us, more so, than one who can lead us to battle.

The placement of the Aries New Moon suggests this is a time for learning to adapt to and connect with our shifting environment: what kind of slow changes are taking place amidst the hustle of life? what information can we absorb if we are just to remain present?

Meanwhile, Jupiter, Pluto and Mars all form a conjunction in Capricorn increasing the potential for ego fueled abuse of power. Though Pluto and Mars can be a brutal combination, putting us face to face with the darker, scarier aspects of life, it can also help us to recognize our ability to persevere, to overcome and to thrive. With Jupiter here, it is crucial that we stick to our morals and values, as well as, to recognize the importance of faith and the magnetic influence of our thoughts.

March 19, 2020: Spring Equinox – Karmic Rebalance + Restructuring

equinox

Last week, the WHO declared a worldwide pandemic over the COVID-19 virus, an extremely contagious novel illness. The fast, far-reaching spread of the COVID-19 has infected 171 countries, over 200,000 people and taken the lives of almost 9,000 individuals. These numbers are expected to keep growing, with governments initiating quarantines and implementing social distancing measures, economies plunging, and health care and emergency personnel on the front lines without the appropriate tools and supplies needed to protect themselves and those who are sick.

People are afraid, unsure, and confined; this pandemic has turned our lives upside down, without any indication of when things will return to normal.

Predictions feel bleak and heavy.

Times are changing; it is inevitable. We have been told this, but now it plays out for us to see.

Where will things go? How will our world move past this? Will things ever be normal again?

A look at the chart for Thursday’s Vernal Equinox suggests the following:

  • We are living in an unprecedented time of karmic re-balancing and restructuring.
  • Solidarity with all our human brothers and sisters will be what gets us through this.
  • And that normal will return, but it will be a new normal; one that requires adaptability, letting go of excess, and learning how to rebuild.

On March 19, the Sun will enter the first degree of Aries, marking the Vernal Equinox and first day of Spring. The equinox represents new beginnings, the arrival of new life, and a sort of cosmic balancing, rejuvenating nature and life after the cold, dark, pause that winter often brings.

As above, so below; the change in season we experience around us coincides with a change in seasons within. The Sun’s movement from watery Pisces to fiery Aries can feel jolting, as we move from a more fluid way of being to a more reactive one. At the time of the equinox, the Sun places in the 6th house of the chart, highlighting our health, feelings of anxiety and worry. This is also the house associated with our routines and the way we approach our days. Thus, we are likely to find ourselves preoccupied with our well-being, dealing with issues of health and managing our day-to-day routine.

With the Sun in Aries, we are being encouraged to begin new projects and to approach our days with a new perspective. Taking initiative is important. Aries energy is active, driven and motivated by the will to survive and move forward, in the 6th house, it can also be highly anxious and irritable.  Finding ways to keep your mind + body active can be helpful in avoiding anxious tendencies or behavior: try reading, meditation, puzzles, hikes or learning a new skill.

With the Sun reaching the Vernal point in the 6th house, also referred to as the House of Service, there is emphasis on the way in which we are of service to others. This astrology urges us to help and assist those around us, to be a good neighbor and friend, and to treat others the way we’d like to be treated. A little kindness goes a long way.

At the same time, the message of connection is reiterated again in the Aquarian moon, which falls in the 4th house emphasizing matters of the home and family. Aquarius tends to bring out the humanitarian in most of us; we feel connected to one another and emotionally fueled to help and nurture as we can. We are able to see more clearly just how similar our species really is and how intertwined we are to our planet. With the moon in Aquarius, we are being motivated by the greater good.

Venus and Uranus in the 7th house target our relationships, describing unexpected changes in both our relationships and the way in which we relate to others. There is the tendency for feelings of stagnation, shifts in resources, and disruptions to the balance in our lives – only by navigating these disruptions can we create the balance that we are actually craving. Making time for nature, sinking your feet into the dirt and just absorbing the stillness can be especially healing and refreshing, and help with staying more present.

Meanwhile and most significantly, Mars, Jupiter, Pluto and Saturn in Capricorn are all within degrees of one another and of the most southern point of the chart. The combination of all these planets at such a pivotal point feels very personal. This is a big, heavy aspect: feels like doom, something is ending, struggling to gain control and to connect with one’s personal sense of power. Be gentle with yourself and with others. Acts and feelings of gratitude can be especially healing and empowering, use this time to practice.

With Pluto, known as the Great Eliminator and Saturn, ruler of karmic change occupying this area, we are being pushed to make some pretty huge life changes (on a personal, societal, governmental and global level) and in the process, saying goodbye to things that no longer help us, or hold us back on our evolutionary journey. Jupiter’s presence here magnifies the situation: this is bigger than us as individuals, it is bigger than humanity. This is karmic elimination, the natural cycle of getting rid of the outdated, the unnecessary, the toxic, and the excess, to make room for the new, the essential, the healing, and the sustainable. This isn’t fun or easy, and may feel more like crisis and chaos than anything else, but is a necessary catalyst to achieve the transformations being stirred on a cosmic level and global scale. With Saturn here, we will reap what we sow; but we must set realistic goals, be disciplined and act responsibly.

January 20,2019 – Leo Total Lunar Eclipse: A New Side of You

lunar eclipse

The first full moons of 2019 occur in the very first degrees of the signs they fall in, ushering in a series of new beginnings, fresh starts and the ability to look at familiar situations with a different perspective, emotional attachment and sense of confidence.

On January 20th, the Moon, Earth and Sun will align to create a total lunar eclipse that will be visible to all of North and South America, and parts of Europe and Africa. The total eclipse will begin at 8:41 PM PST, casting a blood red shadow over the moon for over an hour! In addition, the total eclipse will fuel the skies with great energetic potential for both accessing creativity and connecting with our emotions. This eclipse acts as the closing pair to January 5th’s solar eclipse, suggesting the end of certain cycles in our lives and the beginning of new ones.

The full moon/eclipse falls in Leo in the 11th house in the chart for the event. Thus, suggesting we are likely to find ourselves in a position where we are expressing ourselves in a new way to others. Whether it be sharing new ideas, revealing emotions or simply allowing others to witness newly tapped into parts of ourselves – the chart for the eclipse suggests that we are likely to be putting a part of ourselves on display for our friends and acquaintances to see.

With the moon in Leo, there is strength to be found in one’s vulnerability and story as well as the ability to connect with others, to find common ground, and to establish greater understanding. However, there is also the tendency for over-dramatization and for egos to clash and flare. For Leo, life is a stage to be performed and acted upon – try not to take other’s emotional “performances” too personally. At the same time, try to be aware of your own tendency to “perform” or over-dramatize. A little bit of awareness goes a long way.

Opposite the moon is the Sun in Aquarius, along with Mercury, Pluto and Saturn just a few degrees away in Capricorn. These planets and signs are infused by the energy of the 5th house: the need to express ourselves and release pent up energy, the need to incorporate play and fun into our everyday, and to look at life through the eyes of a child. This astrology emphasizes an evolution of our self-expression as well as the need to release emotional patterns and blockages that prevent us from being able to experience joy and allow fun into our lives.

With so many planets in Capricorn and the Sun’s recent departure, it is likely that life has recently been dominated by a sense of responsibility to reach new goals, ideas related to business + finance, as well as setting new plans into motion. The full moon/eclipse urges us to take things to the next level. Like a child showing off a newly learnt skill, we are proud of what we have achieved and ready to show others. However, also like a child, it is likely that though we have been putting in effort – we are still learning to master that which we are learning. Be patient with yourself; to become adept at anything takes time. Put in the time and effort; in the end, you will reap what you’ve sown.

Further adding to the intensity of this eclipse is the square that it makes to the Aries point – a point associated with visibility to the public. On a personal note, this astrology further reiterates the message that we will be sharing personal “parts” ourselves with others, and also fuels our temptation to take risks. While some risks may prove detrimental, others may prove to be extremely beneficial. Intention is key here. Focus on the creation of the future you as well as on the love you feel for those you care for.

This astrology also has the potential to bring the stresses of our relationships into the public, especially issues related to sex, aggression and jealousy. With such fiery energy taunting our emotions, it is essential to find a healthy way to release in order to avoid succumbing to anxiety or more aggressive feelings. Run, write, sing, kick-box or even dance it out! There are ways to use this energy productively and finding ways to do so will likely be very rewarding.

On a more general note, the astrology targeting the Aries point strongly suggests information or something that has been kept hidden from the public (perhaps related to leadership, government or other structures of hierarchy), will be revealed and acted upon. Keep your eyes and ears open!

Finally the chart for the eclipse places Venus and Jupiter in conjunction in the 3rd house, reminding of us our ability to influence our surroundings. This is a feel good aspect and fuels the eclipse chart with a boastful, indulgent and conversational energy. Its easy to get swept away in talking about oneself or one’s ideas – make sure you are leaving room for others to speak and listening to what they are saying. Remember, there is a fine line between confidence and arrogance, and an over-inflated ego serves no one.

The next few days are likely to be filled with emotions and ego, but also with the ability to re-orient our lives in a way where we are living more genuinely, generously and joyfully. Be kind to others, be true to you and watch the universal magic unfold.

Venus Direct in Libra + Mercury Retrograde in Sagittarius 11/16-12/06: From Fear To Curiosity

Venus-

On Friday, November 16th, just before 6 am PST, Venus will station direct in Libra, completing the retrograde journey it has been on since October 5th. While retrograde, Venus made its way back through the first part of Scorpio and into the last few degrees of Libra – fueling the last month and a half with a heightened sense of emotion, chaos and uncertainty. Venus retrograde in Scorpio has been a sort of reality check; forcing us to look deep and to sit with our discomforts, to recognize our truth and values, and to question that which does not seem to match up. While the experience itself may have been rather dark, daunting and draining, the aim of Venus’ retrograde in Scorpio is not to bring us to defeat – but to awaken a sense of inner power and strength, to stir us so deeply that we have no choice but to grow, to transform and evolve.

As Venus’ retrograde comes to an end, we will likely notice the energy beginning to shift. The heavy darkness, while still heavy and possibly even dark, will begin to feel lighter. However, the retrograde funk that has woven itself throughout our days is not over just yet as Mercury is set to station retrograde in Sagittarius at about 8:30 pm PST on November 16th, only hours after Venus stations direct.

Venus Direct in Libra
The chart for Venus stationing direct places Venus in Libra in the 12th house, associated with our subconscious, dreams and intuition. Venus stationing retrograde here makes the connection between our ability to see things from others perspectives and our ability to find balance and create inner peace. It is important to recognize the necessity of cooperatively coexisting and in considering one another. Regardless of socially constructed hierarchies or differences of opinion, nobody is actually better or more entitled than anyone else.

With Venus in Libra in the 12th house, tolerance, acceptance and understanding are essential. The 12th house reminds us of the oneness that binds us all as living beings and allows us to see the power in compassion: the power to feel for another, to care for another and to stand up against unfair treatment of another.

Venus stations direct in opposition to Uranus in the 6th house and forms a square to Pluto in the 3rd house. This suggests we are being pushed away from feelings of fear and  inadequacy towards feelings of curiosity and self-efficacy. Fear is often unproductive and stagnant, it does not address the issue or problem. However, by turning this fear into curiosity, we are able to move forward in ways that enable us to embrace our experiences and to greet them with excitement instead of dread.

Furthermore, Uranus and Pluto remind us of the power and freedom we possess when we allow ourselves to come from a place of curiosity instead of expectation. Curiosity relieves our egos from the pressure of deciding how things should be and invites the Universe to play, co-manifest and create. It has likely been difficult to relax, to feel safe or stable with Venus retrograde in Scorpio, but the current astrology reminds us of the inner power we have recently cultivated and encourages us to let go of our worries, to take a deep breath and trust in the Universe.

The chart for Venus direct places Jupiter in the 1st degree of Sagittarius in the 1st house, further pushing us away from feelings of hopelessness and toward those of possibilities. Jupiter is optimistic and magnetic, with the tendency to magnify that which it comes in contact with. Its energy is benevolent, gift bringing, and indulgent. Jupiter is at home in the sign Sagittarius and wants nothing more than to put our beliefs into action, to be the change that we wish to see and for us to practice what we preach.

Mars adds an additional flare and oomph to Jupiter’s energy as the two form a square, fueling our ability to manifest that which we have always wanted and to challenge our beliefs from the past. With Mars square Jupiter, it is vital to pay attention to our intentions and our thoughts and to consciously direct our growth. It is easy to get caught up in the mundane routine of everyday life. Make sure to check in with yourself and with the path that you’re on. The power to make changes is in your hands. Jupiter in Sagittarius wants us to expand our minds, our experiences and our beliefs, reminding of us of our personal obligations to both educate ourselves and to initiate our own missions of self-discovery.

Mercury Retrograde

Less than 24 hours after Venus completes its retrograde, Mercury will station its final retrograde of the year, in Sagittarius. Though we have been under the influence of Venus’ Scorpio retrograde for the last 6 weeks, and may have grown accustomed to the tension and heaviness of that particular retrograde, the behavior of Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius and the way in which that tends to manifest is quite a bit different and lighter than that of Venus in Scorpio. While Venus retrograde likely had us on deeply introspective journeys, Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius tends to present in more social and extroverted ways. While the shift in energy is one we are all likely to welcome, Mercury’s retrograde is still sure to bring the usual inconveniences and communication disruptions it has become known for.

For more about this current retrograde cycle, skip past “About Mercury Retrograde”.

About Mercury Retrograde
Mercury retrograde is an Earthly “optical illusion” where Mercury appears to be moving backwards, for 3 weeks, 3 times a year. During these times, one may notice “things” of a mercurial nature tend to go a bit awry.

As Mercury rules communication, we may find issues arise in all the many forms we use to communicate today, as well as with all those we communicate with. Mercury retrograde will affect everyone differently, however those who have strong Virgo, Gemini energy or highly aspected Mercury in their charts, may notice these periods of time to feel particularly frustrating.

As Mercury slows to station retrograde, our logic and abilities to reason may slow down with it. Most will notice their thoughts become sluggish, while at the same time creating a scatterbrained effect. It is common for listening and staying focused for extended periods of time to prove more difficult than usual; and to find that in the midst of a conversation you lose your train of thought. This often accompanied by the thought/feeling that “nothing is going right or according to plan.”

As legal agreements and contracts also fall under Mercury’s ruling, it is best not to sign or commit to anything new during these times. Retrogrades are ideal for re-visiting ideas, jobs, or relationships from the past, but attempting to begin or commit to new endeavors during these periods can backfire and is not recommended. With the constant change and the rather peculiar way of Mercury retrograde, it can be hard to predict what the outcome of situations will be. There is the tendency for whatever was agreed upon in said contract to change once Mercury goes direct.

However, in today’s world, it is difficult to stop from functioning and living in a “forward” motion. Many people find themselves in situations or careers where they must sign agreements or initiate new projects, life happens and deadlines are set, waiting until Mercury goes direct is not an option. It would be wise to be extremely cautious when/if you do find yourself in these situations, that all facts are thoroughly discussed and all fine print is carefully gone over (and over and over again). Though there are many inconveniences of its nature, (re-doing things over again being one of them) Mercury retrogrades can serve as a time for slowing down and really taking a good look at what is happening in our lives and how we can redirect things and make them better. There is no reason for fear or withdrawal from life, (though you may feel a bit more introverted during these times) but there is the need for heightened awareness, clear intentions, patience and preparation.

When Mercury is retrograde, it is a good time to expect the unexpected. Delayed flights, traffic jams at odd hours, computer/electronic malfunctions and miscommunications are often a very obvious part of the experience. Preparation is key to avoiding and overcoming such obstacles during this time. Some ways one can prepare are: allowing for more time to get from point A to point B, making copies of important documents, backing up computer files and double checking details you wouldn’t normally think twice about. When Mercury is retrograde, plans seem to never quite be set, life feels wobbly and uncertain. Leaving room for error and time for backtracking is helpful, while being uptight and trying to “fight” against the current will likely prove a waste of energy. Though we may consider these things to be inconvenient to our daily lives, they serve to help guide us. Underneath the mental fog and distractions is opportunity. Practice going with the flow.

While Mercury is retracing its path, there is increased mental ability to use retrospect in a positive way. To reassess the way we have done something, to revisit old ideas and thoughts- things that we didn’t commit to at the time but find new reason to appreciate now. There is support for reconnecting with old friends, rekindling old flames as well as the likelihood that current relationships will be under scrutiny and review.

It is common for old relationship issues that have been brushed aside to rear their head, and it is likely that with the flux in communication, it will be difficult to deliver the message so both in conversation are on the same page. It may be necessary to confirm that your message is heard and comprehended by the other party in the way in which you intended, and to make sure that you are hearing and understanding others correctly too. It is important to note, that this is really not the time to take drastic measures. Do not do anything that you cannot undo – if necessary.

–Excerpt from Mercury Retrograde in Gemini

Mercury Retrograde in Sagittarius
The chart for Mercury stationing retrograde places Mercury in mid-Sagittarius, not too far from Jupiter. Sagittarius is a fiery, energetic and optimistic sign. It is the sign of the philosopher, the traveler and the adventurer, encouraging us to use our body and stretch our mind through experience. Mercury stationing retrograde in Sagittarius asks us to reflect on the ideals that we believe, our morals and the rules we choose to live by. Why do we believe what we believe?  Why is it that sometimes we require evidence in order to believe something, while other times, all it takes is a gut feeling, the belief of another, or the words in a book?

Our beliefs impact almost everything we do in life, from our goals and the way we treat others, to the way we react to certain situations. Mercury retrograde helps us to better understand ourselves and the decisions we make regularly, by presenting us with situations that necessitate we take a critical look into where are beliefs are rooted. Thus, bringing new awareness to their validity, purpose and impact on our lives.

Furthermore, the chart for Mercury stationing retrograde places Mercury in a square to Neptune in Pisces, which is in conjunction with the Moon. The combination of these energies can be rather emotionally unpredictable and strange in general. Try to leave space for both yourself and others to work through feelings. While sometimes it is nice to have someone’s input, other times it can feel insensitive and egotistical. Use extra caution when driving or using heavy machinery, try to use good judgement when indulging in intoxicating substances. And definitely, don’t use the two together.

While Neptune and the Moon can work together to increase our susceptibility to creative inspiration and intuition, we are also more prone to deception from others and ourselves. Though it may be difficult with Mercury retrograde, try to think things through, to take an objective stance on things and not take things too personally.

On December 1st, Mercury will enter Scorpio, re-intensifying things for a few days before stationing direct on December 6th, resuming its forward motion. Though the retro-funky energy is likely to begin to subside, it will probably linger around a bit longer, until around December 24th when Mercury finally leaves its post-shadow retrograde phase.

The next three weeks are likely to be an interesting time filled with lots of opportunity and potential for growth, as well as a fair amount of retrograde induced miscommunications, revising, reviewing and redoing. Aim high, keep your thoughts positive and productive, and remember to breathe.

Retro-what?

When a planet stations retrograde it enters a part of its orbit where it appears to be moving backwards from Earth’s perspective. Even though the planet is not actually moving backwards, astrologically, this phase translates to a period of “backwards” or unusual behavior by the planet, and a time of introspection, and review for many of us.

While most are somewhat familiar with or at least have heard about the inconveniences of Mercury retrograde, the retrograde cycles of other planets – like Venus – are less commonly talked about. Part of the reason for this may be due to the fact that Mercury stations retrograde pretty frequently: about 3 weeks, 3-4 times a year, whereas Venus only stations retrograde every 19 months for about 6 weeks. In comparison to the retrograde cycles of all the planets, Venus spends the least amount of time retrograde. Because of the infrequency of Venus’ retrograde transits, they are typically more tangible, potent and influential. They often inspire journeys of healing and self-reclamation, as well as to help us be more in touch with our values as they evolve with us through life. However, they are not typically the best time to make purchases or begin new financial ventures.

Although the specific ways in which Venus retrograde may manifest or express itself in one’s life depends on where Venus is located in one’s natal chart and its relationship to other planets and points on the chart, Venus is one of the inner planets and is felt personally. It plays a role in socializing, relating to others and matters of the heart, as well as what one finds beautiful or attractive. It is associated with money, the things and people who make us feel safe and comfortable, as well as with our sense of touch and pleasure; Venus pushes us toward what feels good and what makes us happy. However, when it is retrograde, there is the tendency for shifts or changes to take place in these areas of our personality and life. While these changes serve to propel us forward into a sort of metamorphosis, helping us to initiate our next phase of being, they are usually accompanied with their fair share of growing pains.

Try to be gentle with yourself and with others during this time.

Venus Retrograde in Scorpio/Libra 10/5/18 – 11/16/18

On October 5, at 3:04pm PST, Venus will station retrograde at 10° of Scorpio and backtrack its way to 25° of Libra. While retrograde, Venus will be in opposition with Uranus in Taurus, square Mars in Aquarius and form a conjunction to passing Mercury – making this retrograde an emotionally charged, transforming journey for many of us.

Venus begins its retrograde in Scorpio, an intense, intuitive sign associated with transformations, power and truth. With Venus stationing retrograde here, we are being asked to take an honest look at our relationships, their purposes and the beliefs they instill in us.

Do they serve as powerful catalysts of self-growth and change?

Do they inspire growth and curiosity?

Do they undermine, under stimulate or cause self-doubt?

Venus retrograde in Scorpio suggests the power that is both cultivated from and that exists within our relationships is up for review. Scorpio reminds us of our own personal power, the power to create our own relationships and the power to create our own happiness. With Venus retrograde here, there is the need to eliminate superficial and/or negative relationships (of all kinds) that do not enhance your life or that fail to nurture your growth.

While Venus is retrograde, we are also likely to find ourselves reflecting on past relationships and the way they have influenced us. We may find ourselves sorting through old issues of heartache, abandonment, jealousy or dishonesty. It is also common for people from the past to resurface –  especially old lovers and romantic partners. Though sometimes these people resurface as an opportunity for a second chance, more often then not these encounters serve more to reaffirm the decisions you’ve made and the path you are currently on.

The chart for Venus stationing retrograde places Venus and Scorpio on the cusp of the 9th house, which is associated with beliefs and expansion of the mind. This placement will have us examining the way we utilize our knowledge and education, as well as, our abilities to keep an open mind and to consider the perspectives of others. It may have us reflecting on past schooling, inspire new studies/hobbies, as well as present us with circumstances that remind us that we are all “students of life”. During this time we are also likely to find ourselves searching for deeper meanings from everyday experiences. There is the need to live genuinely, in a way that is reflective of one’s true beliefs and heartfelt desires.

We may also be exploring beliefs about love, commitment and sharing of ourselves with others. While Venus in Scorpio craves the ability to merge with others and to connect in the deepest way, Venus retrograde in Scorpio re-directs us to look inward and to connect with ourselves. It is often easy to lose oneself in an intimate relationship, to merge and intertwine so closely that it becomes hard to separate one’s thoughts, feelings and dreams from the other – but this retrograde encourages us to separate and re-connect with oneself. Venus retrograde asks us to pause and to reflect on our own wants and needs and the love we give to ourselves.

We often romanticize the concept of falling in love with others and accepting the flaws and darkness of those we care about, however, this romantic attitude is not often applied to ourselves. Venus retrograde in Scorpio asks us to reconsider this, to channel love toward ourselves and to see the beauty in our flaws. It also asks us to look at our beliefs and attitudes toward the pleasure that we allow or do not allow ourselves to feel: sensually, sexually, emotionally and physically – and pushes us to look deeper.

Do you deny or over- indulge yourself  with“certain” pleasures?

Do you find you depend on “others” to receive pleasure or to feel good?

What does pleasure feel like?

Is it in the mind or in the body?

And, where is that fine line between pain and pleasure drawn?

Following themes of pleasure, Venus retrograde in Scorpio will also likely have us evaluating our attitudes toward sex and our own sexuality, as well, as the way in which we learn about ourselves through sexual intimacy. We may also find ourselves facing repressed sexual desires and/or experiences we have been unconsciously holding onto. Scorpio encourages us to heal our wounds by embracing the darkness, the taboo and the truth of who we are. Scorpio knows healing requires a certain level of honest introspection – no sugar coating.

With Venus channeling the raw-ness of Scorpio, there is the tendency for things to feel emotionally intense and for themes around trust and honesty to rear their heads. Whether it is lies you are being told, telling yourself, or telling others – Venus retrograde in Scorpio aims to eliminate deception. Any self-denial or neglecting to see the reality of situations will likely be stripped away as Venus in Scorpio refuses to let us settle for a false reality.

On November 1st, Venus will re-enter Libra shifting the energy away from the darker Scorpion themes and into a more peaceful space. While Venus retrograde in Scorpio feels heavy and extreme, pushing us to shed beliefs, relationships and values that no longer fuel our growth, Venus retrograde in Libra is lighter, detached and more diplomatic. There is more room for discussion without emotional interruptions and cynicism – though we may find we struggle to get out of our own heads/wants/needs. Try to be conscious of the way you interact with others. It is okay to agree to disagree. It is okay to take space for yourself, to not want company or to not want to be alone. After the extreme tension of Venus retrograde in Scorpio, Venus retrograde in Libra wants us to find a sense of equilibrium, balance and inner peace. However, it is likely whatever was catalyzed with Venus in Scorpio will continue to weigh on us throughout the remainder of the retrograde.

On the morning of November 16th, Venus will station direct in Libra and slowly begin to resume its forward motion. Though we are not out of the clear just yet – as Mercury is set to station retrograde that same night – the discomfort of Venus retrograde will slowly begin to dissipate as we adjust to our new ways of being.

The rest of the year is sure to be quite an adventure with lots of chaos and change, but also lots of opportunity. Make time for meditation: connect with nature, with your breath and your body. Be true to yourself, act with integrity, and focus on that which you aim to manifest in your life.

Venus in Scorpio: September 9, 2018

Screen Shot 2018-09-08 at 11.00.08 AM

On Sunday, September 9th at around 4:25 am, Venus will enter Scorpio, where it will spend about a month, before stationing retrograde on October 5th and making its way back to the last few degrees of Libra.

Venus has a feminine energy and is associated with love, comfort and pleasure. It rules our relationships, our finances and all that we desire and value. Venus is warm, peaceful, sensual and nurturing. In contrast with the more tranquil ways of Venus, is the depth and chaos of Scorpio. Scorpio seeks transformation, is curious about the darker aspects of life and craves deep meaningful experiences.

As Venus leaves Libra, a sign with energy similar to its own, and enters Scorpio, we are likely to begin to feel shifts taking place both within and around us. Venus in Libra was concerned with beauty, peace, being cordial and diplomatic, while Venus in Scorpio is looking for truth and depth. It demands we move superficial layers aside and get to the heart of the matters at hand, regardless of the conflicts that may arise.

Scorpio understands that growth and transformation do not occur without the stirring of discomfort; it recognizes that to evolve, things must change- we must change. With Venus here, we are actively, though maybe not consciously seeking these changes. Venus in Scorpio asks us to explore our relationship to the darker aspects of life, of personality, and of our experiences, and to embrace it – as she shows us the beauty that exists in that which is different and the creative inspiration that is often born from pain.

The current astrology also fuels our need to examine attitudes towards pleasure and sexuality. This may stimulate unusual sexual behaviors or appetites, conversations regarding consent, safe sex and female sexuality, as well, as to put us in touch with the sexual parts of our being.

With Venus in Scorpio we are likely to be craving intense interactions, touch and meaningful connections. However, this astrology may also lead to being overly dramatic, uncontrollably jealous and emotionally explosive. It also has the tendency to give rise to obsessive thoughts related to sex, power and death, in particular.

Though it probably won’t be easy, try to stay objective. Check in with yourself – and your breathing. Making time for introspection and meditation can be especially helpful in establishing emotional and mental boundaries and preventing issues from becoming more intense than necessary.

Mars Direct in Capricorn 8/27: Searching For Satisfaction

Screen Shot 2018-08-29 at 7.14.15 PM

On Monday, August 27, Mars will station direct completing its retrograde through the last part of Aquarius and the first two degrees of Capricorn.  Mars is the planet associated with that which we desire most in life. It is the craving we must satisfy and the lover we lust for passionately. It is the drive to make our dreams tangible, the bravery to confront one’s fears.  It is seemingly unconquerable. Like adrenaline, Mars is the strength and energy to persevere and survive when the odds are stacked against you.

With Mars retrograde the last two months, it is likely these aspects of our lives and of ourselves, have turned inward for a period of internal review and soul strengthening. Its lessons presented themselves as obstacles, such as the inability to express oneself accurately, difficulties connecting with one’s passions, or inhibited creative or sexual release. Its lessons also likely inspired a sense of internal investigation leading us to question our beliefs, all that we think we know and all that we think we are. Ultimately, Mars retrograde serves to propel us forward on our journey; to get us in touch with the deep wants and callings from within, and to give us the courage to face whatever darkness we may encounter along the way.

As Mars backtracked through Aquarius and Capricorn, it set in motion a period of evaluating our wants and passions: teaching us lessons as it put us face-to-face with feelings of dissatisfaction that may have been buried until recently. These feelings of dissatisfaction likely resonated through our interactions with a sort of boomerang effect, presenting as feelings of self-defeat and/or anger about the decisions and path one has chosen AND feelings of frustration, passive aggression and lack of sociability toward others.  It is important to recognize that this intense inner tension has been running high for most and has required quite a bit of inward focus and attention. With Mars retrograde, we have all been stuck in the middle of our own battles. Be gentle with yourself and be gentle with others, leave space for you to feel and experience whatever is going on within you without criticism.

It is easy to let negative feelings write your mental narrative, but a shift in focus and perspective can make it just as easy to channel the positive. Recognize the magic and creative potential that exists in transforming the negative into positive – and begin with your internal dialogue.

Additionally, Mars retrograde also triggered lessons related to our social environments. These lessons required us to take a closer look at our tribes and groups that we consider ourselves to be a part of; reflecting on both how accurately these groups may represent us, while also feeling the pull to stand out from the crowd and individualize.  Though it’s likely this tension has created some anxiety, lead to some ego confrontations and possibly lowered morale in certain situations, it is necessary for the growth spurt we are all currently experiencing in our own ways. The importance of being a team player, having friends and being part of a “tribe” is invaluable, however Mars retrograde in Aquarius demands that we stand out from the crowd just as much as we blend in. And, to stand-up for ourselves when the time calls for it. We are all our own person with our own experiences, our own stories and our own driving forces. While there is power in coming together, there is also power in recognizing the asset that you are as an individual and in the uniqueness you possess.  There is only one you.

Though it has come with its fair share of growing pains, the goal of this retrograde was not to wage war on ourselves or each other – to give into feelings of defeat and failure, or to scapegoat the issues. Beneath the tension, the confusion and lack of stability, the Universe presents us with the opportunity to reconnect with ourselves: to bring life back to parts of us – hobbies, ways of being, skills and ideals – that we may have left behind as we journeyed into adulthood and learned to live a more responsible lifestyle.

With Mars stationing direct in the 5th house of the chart, the need to connect with the child within is emphasized. There is the need to embrace play, to revitalize your life with a sense of self-discovery and world curiosity. Ask questions. Allow your mind to wander away from daily stresses, let your imagination soar. The answers may not be spelled out for you, but if you follow the path of joy and pleasure you will likely find your pot of golden inspiration.

Mercury Retrograde in Aries: 3/22-4/15

mercury

On Thursday, March 22, Mercury will station retrograde at 16° Aries, amidst a stellium of other planets. With Uranus, the Sun and Venus also in Aries, we are likely to encounter the strong fiery influence of the sign in our interactions with others, as well as within ourselves. Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, and as such, is associated with initiations, new beginnings, the drive to create, the will to survive and a deep inner tension – that when acknowledged and channeled positively – serves as a catalyst that allows one to grow, manifest and recognize ones innate power. From a more superficial standpoint, Aries may present as rash, impulsive, self-centered and egotistical, but it is these traits that allow ones strength, bravery and ability to conquer both inner and outer obstacles to flourish. With Mercury stationing retrograde here, some of this fiery Aries energy is likely to feel stunted. The courage and drive normally associated with the fire of Aries may feel sucked in and hard to access. Additionally, the sureness and confidence of Aries may feel challenged in ways that feel difficult to address, as many of us experience a sort of retro-funk: fuzzy brained, slow motion reality, a feeling of indecisiveness and uncertainty, and a general feeling of dissatisfaction.

The chart for Mercury’s station retrograde places strong significance on the 5th and 8th houses of the chart, where the majority of the personal, inner planets are clustered. Aries falls on the cusp of the 8th house, where Mercury, the Sun, Venus and Chiron all place in the retrograde chart for pacific daylight time. While Capricorn falls on the 5th house cusp, occupied by Mars, Saturn and Pluto.

The 8th house rules themes of self-transformation, exploring one’s darker side, and our personal truths. With the presence of so many inner planets in the 8th house the themes of this house are heavily emphasized, as our thoughts (Mercury), the things and people we love (Venus), our sense of self (Sun), and the parts of us that need healing (Chiron), all find themselves under the radar of this transformative part of the chart. Transits through this area of the chart generally put us face to face with whatever sort of denial we have been living in, forcing us to examine the parts of us that we suppress and hide, and have maybe even forgotten.

With Mercury stationing retrograde here, we are likely to be embarking on a journey through the darker parts of our past. Whether it be painful memories of situations we encountered, repercussions of choices we made, things we said or wish we hadn’t, or even bad habits that we have taken with us over time – there is the need to address certain aspects of the way we allow these issues to influence our current views of ourselves, to be constructive and take responsibility where necessary.

It can be scary digging up old buried memories and owning up to things you’re not necessarily proud of or don’t want to admit, but you may discover some old buried treasure, and develop a new sense of self-appreciation while you are at it. Try to be gentle and nonjudgmental with yourself. The paralysis of guilt can make it difficult to move forward or grow – which is the ultimate goal of all that is underway. We must own both our actions and our thoughts, recognizing that there is a difference between feeling regret, and allowing that regret to fester and cloud ones vision of ones’ self so much that we fail to see anything else. With Mercury retrograde we are being pushed to check in with ourselves and examine the autonomy and automaticity of our behavior and the thoughts that influence it. Negative, self-defeating thought spirals are unproductive and preventable. Do not limit yourself by failing to intervene in your own mental battles.

The 8th house is also associated with themes surrounding sex, life, death and rebirth – the ability to give life to new ideas and relationships – and even reinvent ourselves, if we so choose. With so many planets here, and especially with Aries on the cusp, there is emphasis on new beginnings. However, in order to make space and time for all that is to come – we may find ourselves making sacrifices and letting go of parts of our lives that no longer serve us or fit into the life we are trying to create. This is not always the most comfortable of situations to be in, but the future is at stake and with Mercury retrograde and the stellium of planets in the 8th house, we are not being driven to be comfortable, we are being driven to grow and evolve.

Additionally, the 8th house rules debts, other peoples’ money and that which we inherit from others, suggesting that we may also be struggling with financial matters. The bold, impulsive Aries energy may push us to want to address these financial issues, as well as to discuss issues related to sex. However, with Mercury retrograde, it is not necessarily the best time to have productive conversations regarding these topics. With so much Aries fueling the chart, we are likely to be stuck in our own heads, facing our own criticisms, and feeling resistant to the input of others. Remember that the shared opinion of another does not have to equate to the feeling of being attacked. At the same time, if you can, avoid giving unasked for advice, and keep criticisms to a minimum. With egos running high and many spending a good amount of effort fighting their inner demons, it is likely that we will all have a rather limited emotional capacity and supply of patience. Though it will prove challenging during retrograde time, try to remain present enough during your interactions with others, that you leave space for you to respond, rather than just react.

While the 8th house is associated with the intimate aspect of sexuality, the 5th house is associated with a more fling-like non-committal aspect of sex. With so much sexual energy flooding the chart, we are likely to find ourselves caught up in tangles related to our feelings about our own personal sexuality, as well as our encounters with others. We may be more susceptible to the spiritual influences of engaging in intimate love making, as well as the fleetingness and lack of emotional connection of engaging in more frivolous sexual experiences. The 5th house is also associated with release, risk-taking, creativity and a child-like sense of play. The 5th house tempts us, and sometimes taunts us, presenting us with something fun and flashy, something that feels good – but often lacks permanence. With our drive and ambition (Mars), sense of responsibility and boundaries (Saturn) and feelings of power and necessary change (Pluto) in the 5th house aspecting the planets in the 8th house, we may find ourselves acting out in unexpected ways while we process all of our 8th house baggage. Temptations may arise and we may find we are lured in to engaging in risky behavior, indulging in habits that we thought we had moved past, and/or doing things that are not likely to sit well with us after the fact. [And, yes, you will have to sit with it afterwards.] Presence and self-awareness are essential in navigating these situations.

Furthermore, with Mars (drive and passion) and Saturn (boundaries, limitations) merging in the 5th house, we may be experiencing the desire to release passion that feels restricted, or that hasn’t had the right kind of outlet. This can manifest physically, as a sort of trapped inner tension going back and forth inside the body, making it hard to identify the difference between one’s drive to do something, one’s sex drive and one’s drive to create. Trying something new may prove to be the solution to really letting go, eliminating this tension and finding a sense of inner peace.

On April 15, Mercury will arrive at the 4° of Aries, where it will station direct. Though there will still be much left over from the retrograde to sort through, we are likely to begin feeling a greater sense of clarity, empowerment and purpose as we move forward.

Total Solar Eclipse in Leo August 21: The Great American Eclipse

solar eclipse

There is often great hype over eclipses. Some believe, as they did in ancient times, that they represent omens, periods of crisis and turmoil. With the dramatic visuals taking place in the sky, whether it be the reddening of the moon with the lunar eclipse, or the sudden darkening of the day sky with the solar eclipse, it is easy to see how some could have been swayed to view eclipses as menacing and unfavorable.

Over time, however, improvements in science and technology have given us a better understanding of what is actually taking place in our skies, helping to ease the negative stigma and fears of doom.

If we consider eclipses for what they are, intensified phases of the Moon, the new moon and full moon, more specifically. Wherein the earth, Sun and Moon align almost perfectly to the degree; casting a mysterious red glow on the Moon or allowing us to view the light of the crown of the Sun, peaking around the Moon – in the midst of day – it becomes easier to see them in a more positive, special, naturally rhythmic way.

Just as eclipses are created by the cycle of the Moon, eclipses represent the cycles in our lives. They often usher in new beginnings and bring about abrupt endings, triggering something within us to move forward on our path. Eclipses are about change and transformation. Sometimes eclipses present us with unexpected obstacles. These obstacles, whether internal or external, usually force us to reconnect with ourselves, to face our emotions, and to explore our own personal darkness.

While this can often feel confusing and life may seem uncertain or difficult to navigate, beneath the darkness that looms is great opportunity. Eclipses present us with a window of growth; often bringing to surface emotions, desires or memories that lay buried beneath the surface. The surfacing of these pent up parts of ourselves serves to further our development, to accelerate our advancement and to help us honor the truth of who we are.

Eclipses, which typically occur about four times a year, come in pairs. Each pair includes a solar eclipse, correlating with the new moon, and a lunar eclipse, correlating with the full moon. In the weeks leading up to the eclipses, it is common to feel energy building within us and accumulating around us. In the two weeks between these eclipses, we are seemingly propelled from one eclipse to the other. Life tends to feel fast-paced, jam-packed with feelings and change, and like we are on the verge of some sort of tipping point or breakthrough. Usually, we are.

“The Great American Eclipse”
The approaching solar eclipse has created quite a buzz among the public. While solar eclipses are rather common events, occurring 2-4 times a year, most tend to happen over oceans or less populated areas. This solar eclipse, however, nicknamed “The Great American Eclipse”, will be one that most of us in the U.S can take part in. As the moon passes in front of the Sun, it will cast its dark shadow on the United States and traverse the entire country. Beginning in the Pacific Ocean, the eclipse will reach the coast of Oregon just after 9am and move eastward on through Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Missouri, Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia and South Carolina. Cities across the U.S that lay in the eclipse’s path of totality are expecting a huge surge in tourism, as travelers from all over the world flock to witness this magical celestial event. While only those directly in the path of totality will get to experience the darkening effect of the eclipse, those outside the path of totality will be able to view some of the magic in the sky as well. Los Angeles will get to witness a partial solar eclipse with about 63% of the Sun blocked by the Moon, while views from New York will show as much as 71% of the Sun blocked out.

Additionally, many in the astrological community have been curiously awaiting this eclipse, anxious to see the way in which its events cumulate regarding U.S politics and more specifically, the U.S. President. This eclipse occurs in the 28° of Leo, the very same degree that was on the horizon at the time of President Donald Trump’s birth. This degree also opposes the Moon’s position in the Sibley chart for the United States. All of this suggests that some powerful changes are in store for both the U.S. and the American President.

The 28° of Leo is a point of focus for reasons of other astrological significance as well. In addition to the eclipse taking place here, this is also the point that Mercury will station direct in once it completes its retrograde. The fact that both of these astrological events take place within the same degree closely connects and ties together the more personal intentions of the retrograde and eclipse; intentions inspiring us to recognize our inner strength, to be bold, face our demons and to welcome the uncertainty of change in with open arms.

Total Solar Eclipse In Leo
On August 21st, the Sun and Moon will meet up in the 28° of Leo for the much anticipated “Great American Total Solar Eclipse.” This eclipse is a culmination of the powerful transformative energy that has been building over the last month or so, particularly the last few weeks since the Lunar Eclipse on August 7th.

For more on the Lunar Eclipse, check out:
Aquarius Lunar Eclipse August 7: Channeling Our Inner Fire

Leo is an exciting, dramatic, exuberant sign that enjoys living life to the fullest and being the center of attention. Associated with the Lion, the king of the jungle, Leo possesses an air of regality and a natural sense of authority. Leo is strong, expressive and magnetic with the heart of the performer.

With the Sun and Moon merging together in the Leo, our sense of self and purpose aligns with our emotions. Mars, also in Leo, adds our drive and will power to the merging energies of the self. The combination of the Sun, the Moon and Mars channeling the energy of Leo suggests we are likely to be feeling bold, strong and ready to take charge. It is time to move forward, to make some big personal changes and in some cases to make our mark on the world.

All of the fiery energy in the sky suggests that egos are likely to be running high; the desire to be recognized, seen and heard is in full force for many of us. Mars in Leo also adds a flair of aggression to the air and can increase feelings of possessiveness. During this time, it can be easy to get caught up in our own viewpoints, what we want and think without considering the thoughts or wants of others. If leadership is the aim here, it is important to remember that it is those leaders who learn to work with others and consider the wants of the people that are often remembered as most impactful. If on the other hand, you find yourself simply involved in conflicts or discussions of opposing perspectives – try to listen to others and give them the benefit of the doubt. Make it your mission to treat others the way you want to be treated.

With so much heightened energy in Leo, we are being driven to express our truest self. However, with the intensity of the eclipse triggering a sense of transformation and growth within all of us, the way in which we are “driven” is likely to present itself as lessons where we find ourselves forced to face uncomfortable encounters with authority figures, or intimidating situations where we feel we as though we must prove ourselves. These situations, while often provoked by outside stimuli, are likely to feel personal – shedding light on our inner demons,  darkness, feelings of failure and inadequacies. While this can feel scary, sometimes painful andsend us into a sort of  “fight or flight” mode, the intention of this energy is not to leave us feeling helpless but to fuel our strength. The Leo energy provides us with just the right tools and determination to connect with our sense of courage and bravery and to recognize the light that shines within.

Like in the chart for the Lunar eclipse, all of this energy is being channeled through the 10th house. This placement emphasizes our position in the world, our successes and failures in our career and public reputation. With the Sun, Moon and Mars here, we are again being encouraged to put our boldest self forward for the world to see. Unlike the sky two weeks ago where the Sun and Moon sat in tense opposition to each other that represented an element of discrepancy between our ego and emotional self, the new moon / solar eclipse now unites these parts of us and creates more focused intention. However, as the element of free will is always part of the equation with astrology, it is up to us what we choose to focus this intention on.

Additionally, with so many planets in Leo in the 10th house, we are being challenged to push ourselves to go the highest level: to be the best that we can be, the most creative and authentic versions of ourselves and express the parts of us that we have been too inhibited or shy to share. We must recognize that though we may not feel as though our thoughts or talents are “good enough” or worth sharing, failing to acknowledge and share one’s essence only serves to damper one’s inner light and diminish one’s personal sense of power. Leo encourages us to know our ability, to believe that we can achieve that which we put our heart and mind to, and to trust in our own experience.

While the eclipse emphasizes moving forward and more extroverted behavior,Mercury retrograde making its way towards the eclipse in Leo has the tendency to make us feel like we are taking one step forward and two steps backwards. And, although Leo is sociable, chatty and loves to have a good time, Mercury retrograde in Virgo can feel more introverted and shy. With so much change taking place within all of us, it is important to respect the process of transformation. It is easy to over-do it with so much “can do” energy in the air. Listen to your body. If you need a little time to yourself to recharge – make sure you take it.

The eclipse also forms a square to Uranus in the 6th house. Uranus is unpredictable, rebellious and progressive. It pulls us away from the status quo, reinforcing the idea of individuality and uniqueness. Uranus in the 6th house associated with service, can feel victimized and insecure. Uranus is also tensely squaring the eclipse, and as such, can create some pretty explosive energy that leads to incredible innovative ideas and solutions to problems and issues of the past. However, it can also display as rambunctious, wild and selfish – giving way to potential conflicts, protests and acting out in order to make oneself heard or noticed. Leave room for others to act as they will, this is not likely to be the time to talk someone out of their ways.

Meanwhile, Saturn in Sagittarius in the 2nd house trines both the eclipse and Uranus, urging us to be responsible. We must be responsible to ourselves; to provide for ourselves and to create a safe place for ourselves. This responsibility fuels Uranus and fuels the changes the planet is pushing for us to implement, as well as to help us make the transformation that the eclipse has inspired within us. Saturn’s presence here also reminds us of the importance of hard work and discipline. It is often easier to blame others for one’s’ shortcomings and failures than it is to own up to them, but does scapegoating really ease the feelings of incompetency? Saturn in the 2nd house helps us to achieve our goals by bridging the connection between the effort we put into our work and our self esteem.

While this eclipse marks the climax of the energies that have been building over the last month, it does not necessarily signify that the end is here. Though the intensity is likely to start tapering off, whatever has surfaced during the eclipse will probably take a bit to sink in. Mercury’s retrograde helps us to continue refining and redefining ourselves for another two weeks as it inches towards the 28° of Leo, the same degree the eclipse took place in. Once it arrives there on September 5th, Mercury will slow down and station direct where it will resume its forward motion. Though the energies may not have completely subsided at that point, we are likely to feel more sure-footed with the changes we have made and be more comfortable in the new skin we have created for ourselves. The eclipse will have left its mark on us and within us.

Mercury Retrograde in Virgo August 12 – September 5: Mindfully Evolving

mercury

On August 12, Mercury will station retrograde in 11° of Virgo and begin its journey backwards to 28° of Leo. With Mercury about to station retrograde, many of us are already feeling a bit of the retro-funk; fuzzy brained, slow motion reality, indecisiveness and a general feeling of discontentment with life. However, because this retrograde happens to take place in between eclipses – a period of time where life typically feels fast paced, urges us to move forward, and make big changes – this retro-funk may display itself a bit differently than usual.

For more on the eclipses, check out:
Aquarius Lunar Eclipse August 7: Channeling Our Inner Fire
Leo Solar Eclipse August 21 : The Great American Eclipse

While most of the time it is not really advisable to pursue new endeavors or develop new routines when Mercury is retrograde, the eclipses help to guide our intentions and ability to manifest, toward being more productive. Additionally, though Mercury retrograde tends to make life feel slow paced, the acceleration of the eclipses adds its own dimension to things; leading to feeling like life is zooming by, full speed one minute and as though it is slowly, crawling by the next. And, while retrogrades are often accompanied with a feeling of discontentment, the bold energy of the eclipses helps this to dissipate a little, as our inner flame pushes us to break through to new heights. That said, we are still likely to experience the familiar sensation that we have been here before, as we find ourselves reviewing, re-doing and revisiting themes from the last couple of weeks.

Virgo is the sign of the perfectionist; with its uncanny attention to detail, the desire to refine and improve, and the ability to visualize the most ideal, yet sometimes unrealistic outcomes. With Mercury stationing retrograde here, it is just as easy to get hung up on details as to overlook them. While it is important to be especially attentive to details during retrogrades, obsessing over flaws does not necessarily lead to solutions. Aim to be objective and open-minded.

It is important to remember that we are students of life and that our mistakes and imperfections can serve as our teachers, if we let them.  Virgo lessons tend to present themselves as lessons of humility, but this need not require obsessing over either. By providing space for us to continue to grow, and directing us to the parts of us that still need some fine-tuning and adjusting, our shortcomings and failures can guide us, just the same as our talents and successes.

Virgo is also associated with a sense of apprenticeship, and the energy required to master ones’ skill. It is this intelligent, anxious energy, the one that fuels curious thoughts into carefully planned out action and seemingly finds and corrects even the smallest flaw, that allows for such mastery to eventually exist.

The chart for Mercury stationing retrograde places it in the 8th house, associated with the Scorpio themes of transformation, rebirth/death, inheritance, sex and power. Mercury stationing retrograde here represents a sort of “death” relating to the way we view, think of or understand something. It is likely we are learning to look at “something” in a new way, but in order to truly gain this perspective, current ways of thinking and being must be challenged. Mercury stationing retrograde in Virgo in the 8th house presents us with these challenges, lessons that must be learned and integrated into our beings – so we can evolve past our current phase.

With Virgo on the cusp of the 8th house, there is power in details. Mercury retrograde here emphasizes the need to pay attention to the little things, cross your t’s and dot your i’s; double check your information. Aim for awareness and stick to the facts. Be aware of your surroundings and the way things are worded or instructed. Paying attention to the specifics and being able to recall them will likely prove to be a vital asset during this time.

Mercury stationing retrograde in the 8th house presents us with issues or leaves us contemplating ideas, revolving around “biological obligations.” Birth, puberty, menstruation, pregnancy, the way in which the body ages, and death are all issues belonging to the 8th house. With life only seeming to move faster as we get older, our bodies and cells changing and aging every second, Mercury stationing retrograde here forces us to be more in touch with our evolving body and the current phase we find ourselves in. With critical Virgo in the picture, we may find we are picking ourselves a part, analyzing our wrinkles, comparing our current reflection to that of our past. However, the intent behind the often fault-finding Virgo is not to focus on the flaws but to learn how to appreciate them. Remember that the body you have now, is the very same one you were born with, and the one you will die with. Engraved in it, lines from your smiles and frowns of yesterday, scars from your adventures, aches from the stresses you’ve allowed yourself to carry and the strength from the obstacles you have overcome. Have respect for yourself, respect for your experience and for your own personal vessel.

Meanwhile, the Moon conjunct Uranus in Aries in the 3rd house, gives rise to emotional unpredictability. The Aries fire, fueling the tendency to feel headstrong and act out impulsively. However, with this taking place in the Mercury ruled 3rd house, associated with our perception and environment, our emotional behavior is likely a result of feeling stifled in ones environment and needing something new or different. This is not necessarily the time to expect others to be emotionally sensitive to your needs. We are more likely to find that instead, most of us are devoting quite a bit of energy to conquering our own inner demons and moving forward along our own personal paths. Leave space for yourself and for others – as we are all undergoing a sort of evolutionary growth spurt.

Pluto reiterates the evolutionary growth we are taking part in, as it makes its way through Capricorn in the 12th house, breaking down our mental barriers and helping us to empty our cups, so that we may be better able and more willing to receive the knowledge, love, and other gifts of the universe.

It is easy to get caught up in re-living experiences, allowing them to repeat in our minds, or in our emotional reactions to unrelated situations we find ourselves in. Whether it is replaying what we said to someone and kicking ourselves because of how we did or didn’t sound, the feeling of being taken advantage of, lied to, ignored or put down; holding on to these feelings ultimately only brings us pain. Holding onto these experiences so tightly, fails to allow one to view things objectively. Often preventing one from rising above situations and shortcomings of the past, by keeping them trapped in the initial moment of pain. Pluto’s presence here helps us to break these cycles and rid ourselves of attachments to memories that have kept us bogged down; empowering us to re-write our script, channel our inner light, be the author’s of our own thoughts and inventors of our own reality.

On August 21st, the Sun and Moon will meet in Leo for the Great American Eclipse, in the very same degree that Mercury will station direct in once it completes its retrograde. This closely connects and ties together the intentions of the retrograde and eclipse, helping us to grow, to let go of ways of the past, to recognize our inner strength, and to face our demons.
